At about 1:30pm we will board the Metro and travel to Union Station for more picture taking.

I am unable to be there but will be there with you all in spirit.
Good luck to you all and be safe.
Not a photographer myself, but I’ll spread the word.
Everyone participating might want to take a look at this or some similar guide about your rights.
Good luck!
I think a wise person once said “The America I believe in would shut down Guantanamo Bay.” Also, the America I believe in lets photographers take photos in public places.
what if a bunch of art students sat down and sketched a public place? would that be a crime?
Asev-
thank you for that link
Wish something like this could be organized in New York City too…
I can’t come (since I’m in New York) but I support your efforts. Photographers are harassed here too— I think it’s a nationwide epidemic. I’ve been stopped by the police for merely having a camera with me in small-town New Jersey! Perhaps I should organize an east coast protest along with yours.
Commander Dan Finkelstein, Chief of Transit Police for Metro, told LAist over the phone that there is no such law against photography.
He explained that there are no laws affecting Metro properties regarding personal photography… – via Metroblog LA
Could you edit this post so as to be clear that the event is occurring on Sunday, the First of June, 2008?
Oh…it’s in the title. Ooops! 😉
I’m not able to make it this rally. and you know, if you do protest, weekday is better than weekend because no LASD on Sunday at Union Station! They don’t see it what we are doing!
host your own
Photographers’ Rights Day event.
Hey, discarted – please contact me! I’d like your permission on this….
Thanks
June 1, 2008 is now officially National Photographers’ Rights Day
If this hasnt’ been linked elsewhere, see this brief of photographers rights written by an attorney:

I suggest that you make many copies available on June 1!
I’m planning on being there representing The Digital Photography Podcast. I’ll be recording a special episode this evening to publicize the event.
u guys are full of it. hope u all get arrested.
serjio – you must be a security guard.
what an odd comment.
am not a security guard. I believe that guys think that u can go anywhere and start taking pic. yes, u should have the right, but sometimes u invade peoples privacy. u have no respect for the law……… and just because u go into a public place does not mean ur on public property. ur on private property open to the public. u guys really need a life, and stop doing rallys that creat traffic jams.
serjio-
please explain how someone in public can have their privacy invaded? they’re in public! your expectation of privacy is non-existent. cities have cameras all over the place monitoring the streets, daily. private property open to the public such as the metro(which by the way is 80% funded through taxes and state and federal grants) still falls under constitutional law. please see pruneyard shopping center vs. robins.
we have no respect for the law? that made me chuckle
we’ll also be on the sidewalk and on the train so it’s very likely we won’t cause any traffic problems for you, unless you decided to drive on the sidewalk
